The way in.

Worth a look if equipment costs are the obstacle to starting. The rental terms separate the non-refundable fee from a returnable deposit, so ask for both the amount due upfront and the amount you get back. The visible summer intake has ended.

New Recruits teaches balance and stability from no prior experience. Rookies is the next step for intermediate skating, transitions and early contact work. People who already skate can ask whether Rookies is the right entry instead of repeating foundations.

The program page does not give a practice street address alongside its cohort details. Request the address with your intake response, particularly if you are planning a cross-city journey twice each week.

Next New Recruits dates to confirmThe current page lists a July 6–August 17, 2026 course, described as six weeks and 12 sessions. It has finished. Ask for the next confirmed timetable; the old listing gives Monday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

The money part.

PUBLISHED PRICE / USDLast course: $180 tuition; optional $100 rental upfrontpast cohort

The summer listing gives $180 for the course. The optional $100 equipment package consists of a $50 rental fee and $50 refundable deposit. That is $280 upfront with rented gear, before a personal mouthguard or any other required cost; $50 is returnable under the rental terms. Confirm all figures for the next intake.

What you can borrow

The published rental package includes skates, helmet and knee, elbow and wrist protection. You bring the set to and from practice and supply your own mouthguard. Sizes and spaces can be limited.

Who the program is for

The New Recruits page explains the learning route but does not state every age or gender requirement. Ask the coordinator. Parks & REFreation welcomes new skating and non-skating officials without prior officiating knowledge.
