The way in.

Put Gotham on your list if you can skate without a wall or another person and want a structured course. Budget from the full session price, not a single-class figure, and get the next intake confirmed before arranging your evenings around it.

Basic Training develops skating and derby skills for future players, prospective referees and people skating for recreation. Its public entry condition is independent skating. If you are starting from zero, ask what preparation the next class expects before registering.

The Brooklyn school address belongs to the published spring course. Gotham’s homepage also describes fundraising for a new home. Do not assume a future course will use the same venue or that bout tickets identify the training entrance.

The money part.

The spring listing gives $45 per class ($360 for eight) for new skaters and $40 per class ($320) for returning skaters, plus $75 supplemental insurance. These are dated reference figures, not a quote for the next session. The page says to register before purchasing insurance because courses can fill.

What you can borrow

Quad skates, helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads, mouthguard and athletic sneakers are listed. Loaner availability is not specified.

Who the program is for

The published class is for adults 18+. It welcomes different skating goals. The class page does not spell out a gender policy for every participation route; ask the coordinator about the route you want.

The entry program and a competitive roster may have different requirements. Start with the program named here and ask about the next step you want to take.
