The way in.

A good Austin option if you want a recreational entry and can make Sunday mornings outdoors. Check both the weather and the fee before going: the page mixes its fall schedule with an older sentence about a free spring session.

Rec League separates Intro to Skating, Derby Specific Skills, and Full Contact / Tryout Prep. Beginners start with Level 1. More experienced skaters can ask which higher level matches their current skills; a recreational session is not an automatic competitive roster place.

This is an outdoor track. Verify the league’s weather call before travelling. Bring the venue address and your registration details; the public-bout location at the Travis County Expo Center is a different place.

Fall session listed; weather dependentThe fall listing covers August 16–September 27, 2026, Sundays 9–11 a.m., with no September 13 practice and weather-dependent sessions. Level 1/2 is listed 9–10 and Level 2/3 at 10–11.

The money part.

The heading advertises the fall 2026 session, while the price sentence still says the spring rec session is free. That is not enough to promise free fall skating. Insurance is recommended on the Rec League page, with waiver requirements also described. Ask what applies to your level and the session you attend.

What you can borrow

The league requires quad skates, helmet, knee and elbow pads, wrist guards and a mouthguard. A rental or loaner service is not stated on the Rec League page.

Who the program is for

Rec League says all skaters aged 18 or older are welcome, regardless of previous derby experience. Competitive team participation has its own requirements.
